Schengen visa application centres do not necessarily accept applications from residents of every part of a country. Some countries, including India, use territorial jurisdiction rules that determine which application centre an applicant must use based on their place of residence.
Verify eligibility before checking slots: Before checking appointment availability, make sure the selected city is authorised to accept applications from your state/region. An appointment being available does not necessarily mean you are eligible to submit your application there.
Consequences of applying outside jurisdiction: If you book an appointment at a centre outside your jurisdiction, the visa application centre may question your eligibility or may not accept the application when you attend. Jurisdiction requirements vary by country and application provider.
Example: Schengen Visa Applications in India
In India, different application centres serve distinct states and territories. For example, depending on the destination country and provider, an applicant residing in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, or a Northeastern state may be directed to the relevant Kolkata jurisdiction rather than being free to choose an application centre in New Delhi or Mumbai simply because an appointment is available there.
